The Early Days

Dandenong Oasis is continually transforming, recently seeing a new floor on the pool deck, a face-lift to the café, fresh paint across the facility and new equipment in the Health Club.

These are just a few thing that has improved our much-loved facility for the City of Greater Dandenong residents and neighbouring areas.

Recently former Mayor Cr Ian McDonald, who opened Dandenong Oasis back in 1991, attended our Oasis Open Day in June along with his wife Pat.

Ian was happy to see and hear about the great work YMCA and the City of Greater Dandenong Council have been doing for our centre.

At the time of opening, Dandenong Oasis was the biggest Indoor Recreation Centre in Australia and was the first Water Safety Education Centre, that went on to model future centres to come.

Last week local primary school Springvale Rise, participated in our school swimming lesson program, which saw Norman Farmer, former Centre Manager visit and congratulate the school on taking a fantastic step forward in assisting their school community to be safer in and around water.

We love to hear stories about Dandenong Oasis in its early days, and if you have a story you would like to share, we would love to hear from you.
